Cheers From the Traveling Wino

I didn’t start off as a wine drinker or a world traveler…

In fact…I confess, I was a weekend social beer drinker that took a vacation every two years to visit my relatives. Then one day I was introduced to wine tasting and I loved it! It wasn’t what I expected. I thought it would be snooty and pretentious. I thought I’d be pressured to buy expensive wine. And I thought I’d have to ditch my blue jeans for more proper attire!! None of that was true.

My husband and I started becoming “weekend wine warriors”, traveling to local California wine trails. Our wine tasting weekends offered surprisingly unique (and affordable) adventures.  From a singing winemaker entertaining the crowd…to a family serving wine in their barn…to a vineyard tour at night with glow sticks…we’ve had so many amazing experiences with winery owners, winemakers, and fellow wine tasters.

After a series of events, our focus shifted to our other passion, world travel. I quit my job, sold everything and started traveling the world with my husband. Now, we find ways to explore the world and wine taste on a budget. And we’re sharing our adventures and tips for affordable travel and wine tasting with you.

If you want to learn where the locals go, or where to get a more friendly, down-to-earth experience, the Traveling Wino is your pal. If you want to find unique experiences, tips, and guides to affordable wine tasting and world travel, this is your place.

We welcome any questions or suggestions you might have about wine regions and world travel and we hope you find this as fun and enjoyable as we do.

Cheers! Salude! Sláinte! To the good life!

Why I Quit My Job, Sold Everything, and Started Traveling the World

I’ve always wondered why we wait until our 60s or 70s to retire. Whenever I thought of it, it never seemed to make sense. You work hard to get through school…then you work hard to start your career. Once that’s done, you work hard to buy a house, car and lots of stuff for you, your spouse, two kids, and gaggle of pets.

And when you’ve done that…then you work hard to put the kids through school, pay for their weddings, and eventually buy stuff for the grand kids. Only after all of this, do you get the chance to retire and spend some time doing the fun stuff you want to do. Makes sense, right?

For some reason it never added up for me. I’m not saying…
