Just like you have your own style, so does each winery. Some are reserved, some are refined and some are proper. But we don’t hang out at any of these!
For each winery we visit, we designate the style (or styles) we experienced while we were there: Educational, Elegant, Energetic Party Zone, Friendly & Fun, Rustic & Low-key, and Unique. That way, you know exactly what style it’s likely to offer you on your next visit.Â
Check out the category descriptions below, and be sure to check out the best of the best (in our opinion) by going to the “Wino’s Pick” section on the main menu.
Educational Wineries
New to wine tasting? This is where you can go to learn more about wine and wine tasting without feeling like you’re in a college chemistry class. In other words…you’ll learn about wine making, wine tasting, wine growing and you’ll have a great time doing it. The best part is…you’ll feel comfortable asking any question, because the people here are approachable, non-judgmental and love to share what they know.
Elegant Wineries
Elegance doesn’t always mean snooty or expensive. These wineries are not only elegant, but they’re also approachable and affordable. To make it on this list, these wineries offer a classy ambiance without the air of pretentiousness (something a wino never wants!)
Energetic Party Zones
This is where the bachelorette parties go. These wineries are the “hot spots” where everyone goes to taste wine and socialize. Most of these place can accommodate large groups and are prepared to handle all the shenanigans that come with it 😉
Friendly & Fun Wineries
While most wineries are friendly…this category captures the best of the best. These wineries don’t take themselves too seriously and are certainly not stuffy. Here you can belly up to the wine bar and taste delicious wines while also experiencing a comfortable, lighthearted atmosphere infused with fun. Whether it’s from the owners, winemakers, servers, or guests, this is where you go to learn their stories and it is where they take the time to learn about you. Making it on this list is like marrying into the family…for better or worse!
Rustic & Low-Key Wineries
One of the Wino’s favorite categories, these wineries are often small, located in very rural locations or positioned in garages, barns, or warehouses of family-owned wineries. The atmosphere is often very simple with winemakers concentrating more on producing quality wine and offering a down-home feel than providing elaborate decor. One thing these wineries all have in common? They’re extremely welcoming to visitors…especially winos.
Unique Wineries
To make it on this list, these wineries have to show something unique that you can’t find anywhere else. From spectacular views, to obscure locations, to hard-to-find wines, these are the places you will want to go for something different.
